Hooggeachte Collega,
Het is mij bekend dat de heer F. Weinreb, economisch doctorandus, zich heeft aangeboden voor de vervulling van een docentenplaats in Uw faculteit voor de onderwerpen Statistiek en Conjunctuuronderzoek. Op zijn verzoek wil ik gaarne een woord van aanbeveling bij zijn sollicitatie voegen.
De heer Weinreb heeft lange jaren vóór de oorlog medegewerkt aan het Nederlandsche Economisch Instituut, waar hij een aantal statistische studies verrichtte, die m.n. op de conjunctuuranalyse betrekking hadden. Ook heeft hij onder mijn leiding een monographie verzorgd, die in de reeks van het N.E.I. verschenen is onder de titel "Statistische bepaling van de vraagcurve". Deze studie had betrekking op de vraag naar suiker. De heer Weinreb maakte deel uit van de redactie van het toen verschijnende maandblad "Economisch-Statistische Maandberichten", waarin hij ettelijke tientallen bijdragen schreef, die echter ongesigneerd waren. Zijn naam staat wel vermeld in het hoofd van bedoeld tijdschrift.
De heer Weinreb heeft zich bij al deze werkzaamheden een gedegen en intelligent werker getoond, die rustig en op aangename wijze met de andere leden van de staf samenwerkte. Bovendien drukt hij zich gemakkelijk en op ongekunstelde wijze uit, waardoor hij zeker ook tot het geven van onderwijs behoorlijk in staat geacht moet worden. Gaarne beveel ik hem warm in Uw aandacht aan. Tot het geven van nadere inlichtingen ben ik zeker gaarne bereid, indien U deze wenst.

Highly esteemed Colleague,
I am aware that Mr. F. Weinreb, doctorandus in economics, has applied for a teaching position in your faculty for the subjects of Statistics and Business Cycle Research. At his request, I would like to add a word of recommendation to his application.
For many years before the war, Mr. Weinreb worked at the Netherlands Economic Institute, where he conducted a number of statistical studies, which specifically related to business cycle analysis. He also prepared a monograph under my supervision, which appeared in the N.E.I. series under the title "Statistical determination of the demand curve". This study concerned the demand for sugar. Mr. Weinreb was part of the editorial board of the then-published monthly magazine "Economic-Statistical Monthly Reports", in which he wrote several dozen contributions, which were, however, unsigned. His name is mentioned in the masthead of the magazine in question.
In all these activities, Mr. Weinreb has shown himself to be a thorough and intelligent worker, who collaborated calmly and in a pleasant manner with the other members of the staff. Moreover, he expresses himself easily and in an unpretentious way, which means he must certainly be considered properly capable of teaching. I would like to warmly recommend him to your attention. I am certainly willing to provide further information if you so desire.
