My dear Fleming,
It is with the greatest interest that I read your paper in the Economic Journal, which you announced to me already some time ago. As you may understand I was particularly fascinated by what you say about ranging the countries in an order of strength, and I think that I only partly succeeded: viz. for cases where
(a) supply and demand of each commodity only depend on the price of that commodity, or
(b) take account of interrelations between demand but then only if also commodity prices are kept constant. Here I added the assumption that all home products not exported are consumed at home, say, because of the full employment.
In fact, I think that in your R, in the most general cases, somewhat too much is hidden, as you more or less indicate yourself.
My main suggestion in this letter is whether you are going to publish something more about the mathematical proof of your statement. Since I am thinking of writing a note on your problem I should be glad to know what you are doing yourself, in order to avoid duplication.
