Beste Tjalling,
Hartelijk dank voor je brief van 9 Juni. Gaarne zal ik op de 19e November voor enkele dagen in Chicago zijn. Het hangt van de verbinding af hoe laat ik zal kunnen aankomen. Ik moet 's Woensdags in Haverford zijn. Ik mag dat na aankomst nog wel even onderzoeken. Wat betreft de inleidingen, die ik zou houden, ga ik gaarne accoord met je voorstel. Zoals je begrijpt spreek ik over deze onderwerpen in jullie milieu bijzonder graag om er mijn voordeel mee te doen.
In antwoord op je brief van de 10e moet ik je zeggen dat ik de keuze moeilijk vind. Ik ken de heer Malinvaud niet, Boiteux heb ik slechts een enkele keer ontmoet. Hij maakt op mij een zeer goede indruk. Theil en De Wolff zijn allebei zeer goede vaklieden zoals je weet. De Wolff kan wel eens wat impulsief zijn, maar heeft daar tegenover zijn leeftijd mee om dit te compenseren. De Wolff's belangstelling is misschien wat breder dan die van Theil en Theil zal ongetwijfeld zijn weg wel vinden. Ik betwijfel zelfs of hij niet liever van dergelijke bezigheden verschoond blijft. Ik neig dus tot de conclusie om De Wolff aan te bevelen.

Many thanks for your letter of June 9. I would be happy to be in Chicago for a few days on November 19th. It depends on the connection what time I will be able to arrive. I have to be in Haverford on Wednesdays. I may look into that for a moment after arrival. Regarding the introductions I would give, I gladly agree with your proposal. As you understand, I particularly enjoy speaking about these subjects in your environment in order to benefit from it.
In response to your letter of the 10th, I must tell you that I find the choice difficult. I do not know Mr. Malinvaud; I have only met Boiteux once. He makes a very good impression on me. Theil and De Wolff are both very good professionals, as you know. De Wolff can be a bit impulsive at times, but on the other hand, he has his age to compensate for this. De Wolff's interest is perhaps somewhat broader than that of Theil, and Theil will undoubtedly find his way. I even doubt whether he would not rather be spared such activities. I therefore tend towards the conclusion to recommend De Wolff.
