Zeer geachte Heer Smulders,
Voor de toezending van Uw proefschrift en de daarbij gesloten brief dank ik U zeer. Het doet mij veel genoegen dat U dit werk volbracht hebt en ik heb het boekje ook met belangstelling gelezen. Ik ben bang dat ik mijn programma in Rotterdam niet zodanig kan omzetten, dat ik nog gelegenheid vind naar Tilburg te komen. Daarom wil ik U langs deze weg hartelijk gelukwensen met deze grote dag in Uw leven en de hoop uitspreken dat U ook verder voldoening zult hebben van de wetenschapsbeoefening en de practische toepassing daarvan.
