Aan de heren Regenten van de Professor F. de Vries Stichting.
Mijne Heren,
Na overleg met de heren Holtrop en Lambers en nadat mij gebleken was, dat wij de eerste 6 weken niet tot een vergadering zouden kunnen komen, wend ik mij schriftelijk tot U met enkele belangrijke punten onze Stichting betreffende, in de hoop, dat U mij binnenkort Uw reactie hierop zult willen doen toekomen.
1° Door het overlijden van collega F. de Vries is er een andere situatie ontstaan. Het komt voor en collega Lambers is het hierin met mij eens, dat er geen noodzaak is enige wijziging te brengen in de samenstelling van ons College. Volgens artikel 4 eerste lid van onze Statuten: "De stichting heeft een college van regenten, bestaande uit een door dit college zelf te bepalen aantal, doch tenminste vijf leden", hebben wij een voldoende aantal leden.
2° Betreft de uitnodiging van de volgende spreker. Collega Frisch heeft mij doen weten, dat hij niet in staat is om, zoals wij hem gevraagd hebben, in het voorjaar van 1959 op te treden. Ik zou U thans willen voorstellen, dat wij als eerstvolgende spreker aanzoeken Prof. P. Rosenstein Rodan, U ongetwijfeld wel bekend. De heer Rodan is thans hoogleraar aan het Massachusetts Institute of Technology te Cambridge, Mass. en heeft hoogst interessante gedachten ontwikkeld over de factoren die de ontwikkeling op lange termijn ener volkshuishouding beïnvloeden.

Hij zal ongetwijfeld in staat zijn om een betoog op hoog wetenschappelijk niveau over enige dezer vraagstukken voor ons te houden.

To the gentlemen Regents of the Professor F. de Vries Foundation.
Gentlemen,
After consultation with Messrs. Holtrop and Lambers and after it became clear to me that we would not be able to meet for the first 6 weeks, I am writing to you with some important points concerning our Foundation, in the hope that you will let me have your reaction to this shortly.
1° Due to the death of colleague F. de Vries, a different situation has arisen. It appears, and colleague Lambers agrees with me on this, that there is no need to make any changes to the composition of our Board. According to Article 4, first paragraph of our Statutes: "The foundation has a board of regents, consisting of a number to be determined by this board itself, but at least five members", we have a sufficient number of members.
2° Concerns the invitation of the next speaker. Colleague Frisch has informed me that he is unable to appear in the spring of 1959, as we had asked him. I would now like to propose to you that we invite Prof. P. Rosenstein Rodan, undoubtedly well known to you, as the next speaker. Mr. Rodan is currently a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass. and has developed highly interesting thoughts on the factors that influence the long-term development of a national economy.
