Dear Professor Bowman,
Thank you for your kind letter of March 24. I am very honored by the offer you make me, but I cannot, at least for the first years to come, accept it. I have many obligations in Europe and think I have to stay here. Taken by itself it would have been very attractive to me; I often think of my stay in the States as a very good time.
Of course I do hope that we will keep in contact, especially for questions of mutual interest. I have pleasure in sending you the just published English edition of the 1954 Central Economic Plan of the Netherlands. At the moment we are discussing the American situation currently and next week there will be a consultation of European economists with Mr Jacobi from the Council of Economic Advisers.
