Waarde Collega,
Tot mijn spijt ontdekte ik, dat ik in mijn eerste brief van 16 April verzuimd heb Uw vraag te beantwoorden omtrent een publicatie waarin men de productie en verbruik van een aantal grondstoffen kan vinden. Dit is het geval met het "Statistical Yearbook" van de Verenigde Naties, althans voor een belangrijk aantal der door U genoemde grondstoffen. Behalve de door U genoemde complicatie, die men vermijdt door hoeveelheden te nemen (en geen waardecijfers), is er de grotere moeilijkheid dat ook de voorraden kunnen zijn toegenomen en dat daarom productie minus exportoverschot nog niet gelijk is aan verbruik. Vandaar dat men van een aantal grondstoffen het verbruik niet goed kent. Niettemin geloof ik dat bedoelde publicatie in hoofdzaak aan Uw verlangens voldoet.
Zoals in mijn vorige brief reeds vermeld, hoop ik binnenkort gelegenheid te vinden een wat meer uitgewerkt plan voor Z.W.O. samen te stellen.

Dear Colleague,
To my regret I discovered that in my first letter of 16 April I neglected to answer your question regarding a publication in which one can find the production and consumption of a number of raw materials. This is the case with the "Statistical Yearbook" of the United Nations, at least for a significant number of the raw materials mentioned by you. Besides the complication mentioned by you, which one avoids by taking quantities (and no value figures), there is the greater difficulty that stocks may also have increased and that therefore production minus export surplus is not yet equal to consumption. That is why the consumption of a number of raw materials is not well known. Nevertheless, I believe that the publication in question mainly meets your requirements.
As already mentioned in my previous letter, I hope to find an opportunity soon to draw up a somewhat more detailed plan for Z.W.O.
