Dear Colleague,
Due to an error by the administration of the school of higher economic studies in Rotterdam, your letter of March 5th only reached me yesterday along with the one from March 16th. Being away to visit Luxembourg, they failed to send this first letter to my home. I apologize a thousand times for the fact that you had to wait for 10 precious days without receiving any response. I thank you very much for your very kind invitation which did me great honor; however, it would not have been possible for me to accept it. I already had several engagements for the week of the 22nd. I hope that my Dutch colleague will not follow my bad example and I wish you every success with the Dutch week. I also ask you to apologize for me to the rector.
It was a great pleasure to have you with us: it was only a pity that this time as well the time frame was a bit short to better prepare your visit to Rotterdam.

Monsieur et cher Collègue,
A cause d'une erreur de l'administration de l'école des hautes études économiques à Rotterdam votre lettre du 5 mars ne m'est parvenue avec celle du 16 mars que hier. Etant absent pour visiter Luxembourg on a manqué m'envoyer chez moi cette première lettre. Je m'excuse mille fois du fait qu'il vous a fallu attendre pendant 10 jours précieuses sans recevoir aucune réponse. Je vous remercie vivement de votre invitation très aimable qui m'a fait beaucoup d'honneur; il ne m'aurait pas été possible cependant de l'accepter. J'avais déjà plusieurs engagements pour la semaine du 22. J'espère que mon collègue hollandais ne suivra pas mon mauvais exemple et je vous souhaite tout succès avec la semaine néerlandaise. Je vous prie de m'excuser aussi auprès monsieur le recteur.
Il était un grand plaisir de vous avoir chez nous: il était seulement dommage que cette fois également le délai était un peu court pour mieux préparer votre visite à Rotterdam.
Avec mes excuses répétées je vous prie d'agréer, Monsieur cher Collègue, l'expression de mes sentiments les meilleurs.
