Professor Pasquale Saraceno,
Associazione per lo Sviluppo
dell'Industria nel Mezzogiorno,
Via G. Paisiello 5,
Rome.
Dear Professor Saraceno,
Thank you very much for your letter of December 14 and for the very beautiful book you sent us. We are really confused about it, but like it very much indeed.
It goes without saying that if you would find the time to visit the Hague with one of your collaborators, we would be delighted to show you everything about our work; unfortunately the geographic and historic features of the region have to be estimated at less than 1 % of those of your region! You might remember that a group of Dutch students have shown a keen interest in problems of development in Italy, and I would like to repeat my invitation to give a lecture to them if you would plan to come hither.
I do hope you know that if you want me to look over some parts of recent work done by your organization, I consider it my pleasant duty as a member of the board of SVIMEZ. Don't hesitate to send me any reports on which you want my comment. In this connection I may tell you that from January 1 I took leave from my main position as director of the Planning Bureau in order to devote myself for 6 months at least to problems of development. A special division has been created to this effect by the Netherlands Economic Institute, called "Division for balanced international growth". In this capacity it is our intention to foster international contacts and to yield services, as far as we are able, to institutions devoting themselves to the same purpose. It is the intention to render these services free of charge. I hope that in this capacity our contacts will be very lively also.
With many thanks for your good wishes and good wishes for your family and yourself,
I am,
yours very sincerely,
