Amice,
Naar aanleiding van een advertentie die Stork heeft geplaatst o.a. in Vrij Nederland en waarin een bedrijfseconomisch medewerker voor de Directie werd gevraagd, heb ik bezoek gehad van drs J.A.Verhorst. Ofschoon deze slechts de leeftijd van 35 jaar heeft, wil ik toch aan zijn verzoek voldoen ondershands aan je te melden dat hij voor deze betrekking belangstelling heeft. De heer Verhorst is gedurende enige jaren waarnemend Secretaris-Generaal aan het Ministerie van Wederopbouw en Volkshuisvesting geweest en ik heb hem toen vooral leren kennen als iemand met een helder inzicht, een prettige, vlotte omgang en een grote activiteit. Sinds een of twee jaar is hij bij de B.P.M. werkzaam, wat hem op zichzelf wel bevalt, reden waarom hij niet openlijk wil solliciteren. Het zeer [unclear] bedrijf van de B.P.M. heeft ook bepaalde schaduwzijden. Vandaar belangstelling. Hij zou, naar ik meen, zich in de prettige sfeer [van het] Stork-bedrijf niet alleen goed thuis voelen, maar daartoe zelf op [duidelijk] positief bijdragen. Om de zaak volkomen zuiver te stellen [wil ik] echter tevens zeggen dat ik over de finesses van zijn capaciteiten [niet] ingelicht ben: ik heb hem in vele vergaderingen natuurlijk eerder als [partner] in de discussies meegemaakt, dan dat ik ook maar iets over zijn werk te zeggen had.
Mocht het zo lopen dat men van de zijde van Stork ook voor hem belangstelling heeft, dan zal hij uiteraard gaarne eens naar Hengelo komen. Ik zou het op prijs stellen indien je dit schrijven als vertrouwelijk beschouwt.

Amice,
Following an advertisement that Stork placed in, among others, Vrij Nederland, in which a business economics assistant for the Board was requested, I received a visit from drs J.A. Verhorst. Although he is only 35 years old, I still want to comply with his request to privately inform you that he is interested in this position. Mr. Verhorst served for several years as acting Secretary-General at the Ministry of Reconstruction and Housing, and I got to know him then primarily as someone with clear insight, a pleasant, smooth manner, and great activity. For one or two years now, he has been working at B.P.M., which he likes in itself, which is why he does not want to apply openly. The very [unclear] business of B.P.M. also has certain downsides. Hence the interest. He would, I believe, not only feel at home in the pleasant atmosphere [of the] Stork company, but also contribute [clearly] positively to it. To be completely clear, [I want] however also to say that I am [not] informed about the finer points of his capacities: I have, of course, experienced him in many meetings more as a [partner] in discussions than that I had anything at all to say about his work.
Should it happen that there is also interest in him from Stork's side, he would naturally be happy to come to Hengelo sometime. I would appreciate it if you would consider this letter confidential.
