Dr Harry G. Johnson, King's College, Cambridge
Dear Dr Johnson,
You are right in thinking that in recent work I took the wage level as a datum since at the present time in the Netherlands it is more or less an instrument of economic policy used by the government. In previous work, however, I tried to consider wages as a variable in the system, and for brevity sake I may refer to my publications on "Business Cycles in the United States" (League of Nations, 1939) and "Business Cycles in the United Kingdom" (Amsterdam, 1951, Academy of Sciences). Cf also "An Econometric Approach to Business Cycles Problems" which deals with Holland; I think I quote in one of these three publications some earlier investigations on wage formation published in the Dutch periodical "De Nederlandsche Conjunctuur" 1933. If anything would remain dark after this, please, let me know.
It was pleasant to hear from you and I am looking forward to your results.
Wit best personal regards,
yours very sincerely,
(J. Tinbergen)
