Dank je voor je brief van 16 Januari, waaruit ik met belangstelling hoorde hoe het je verder gegaan is. Het spijt me uiteraard, dat men je daar toch de vastheid niet kon geven, waarop je recht had, en ik zal gaarne, indien ik van andere mogelijkheden hoor, je daarover berichten.
Wat de literatuur betreft zou ik je in 't bijzonder willen aanbevelen het verleden jaar verschenen boek van L.R. Klein "A Textbook on Econometrics", dat van de thans beschikbare wel het meest practische boek is. Je zult er uiteraard wel enige moeilijkheden bij ontmoeten, want eenvoudig is het niet, maar desgewenst ben ik gaarne bereid om eens met je te praten over enkele dezer vraagstukken - voor zover ik ze zelf beheers, want het gebied heeft zich zo ontwikkeld, dat we steeds meer arbeidsdeling gaan toepassen.
Wat betreft de vraag over de United Nations, ik heb niet de indruk dat men daar binnen afzienbare tijd vacatures in verband met Goudriaan's commissie zal hebben. Zodra echter de commissie van experts zou worden ingesteld, bedoeld in het rapport van Goudriaan, laat het zich denken, dat er iets zou komen. Maar waarom zend je niet een sollicitatie in algemene zin naar het "United Nations Secretariat" ? Je weet dat Derksen daar vertrokken is en tegenwoordig bij het C.B.S. is. Misschien dat je hem ook eens om raad vraagt !

Thank you for your letter of 16 January, from which I heard with interest how things have been going for you. I am naturally sorry that they could not give you the stability to which you were entitled, and I will be happy to inform you if I hear of other possibilities.
As far as literature is concerned, I would particularly like to recommend the book by L.R. Klein "A Textbook on Econometrics" published last year, which is probably the most practical book currently available. You will naturally encounter some difficulties with it, because it is not simple, but if desired I am happy to talk to you sometime about some of these issues - as far as I master them myself, because the field has developed so much that we are increasingly applying division of labor.
Regarding the question about the United Nations, I do not have the impression that they will have vacancies in connection with Goudriaan's commission in the foreseeable future. However, as soon as the commission of experts were to be established, as intended in Goudriaan's report, it is conceivable that something would come up. But why don't you send a general application to the "United Nations Secretariat"? You know that Derksen has left there and is currently at the C.B.S. Perhaps you should also ask him for advice!
