Zeer geachte Collega,
Na een afwezigheid van 10 dagen vond ik Uw brief van 11 dezer, die ik snelheidshalve in het Nederlands beantwoord, aannemende dat het U geen moeite zal kosten van de inhoud kennis te nemen.
Aan het conjunctuuronderzoek is in Nederland vele jaren vóór de wereldoorlog geregeld aandacht geschonken door twee instellingen, nl. het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek en het Nederlands Economisch Instituut. De resultaten van die onderzoeken zijn neergelegd in de tijdschriften De Nederlandsche Conjunctuur en Het Economisch-Statistisch Kwartaalbericht, resp. door de twee hierboven genoemde instellingen uitgegeven. Beide tijdschriften zijn na de tweede wereldoorlog niet langer voortgezet. De tegenwoordige toestand is deze, dat in het Maandschrift van het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek veel materiaal en in het tijdschrift Statistische en Econometrische Onderzoekingen, eveneens uitgegeven door het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek, geregeld beschouwingen over de conjunctuursituatie worden gepubliceerd. Wellicht verdient het daarom aanbeveling in de eerste plaats te gaan spreken met dr H.C. Kuiler, Chef van de betrokken afdeling bij het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek. Ook indien thans niet alles wordt gedaan dat U in dit verband belang inboezemt, zal toch de heer Kuiler U het beste kunnen inlichten omtrent een aantal verwante enquêtes, die bij het Bureau geregeld worden verricht.

After an absence of 10 days, I found your letter of the 11th of this month, which I am answering in Dutch for the sake of speed, assuming that it will not be difficult for you to take note of the content.
In the Netherlands, regular attention was paid to business cycle research for many years before the world war by two institutions, namely the Central Bureau of Statistics and the Netherlands Economic Institute. The results of those studies were recorded in the journals De Nederlandsche Conjunctuur and Het Economisch-Statistisch Kwartaalbericht, published respectively by the two aforementioned institutions. Both journals were no longer continued after the Second World War. The current situation is that much material is published in the Monthly Bulletin of the Central Bureau of Statistics and regular reviews of the business cycle situation are published in the journal Statistische en Econometrische Onderzoekingen, also published by the Central Bureau of Statistics. It might therefore be advisable to first speak with Dr. H.C. Kuiler, Head of the relevant department at the Central Bureau of Statistics. Even if not everything that interests you in this regard is currently being done, Mr. Kuiler will still be best able to inform you about a number of related surveys that are regularly conducted at the Bureau.
