Zeer geachte Heer Land,
Ik begin er erg voor te vrezen dat ik a.s. Vrijdag op de vergadering niet aanwezig zal kunnen zijn. Als voorzitter van een commissie van de Sociaal-Economische Raad, die opdracht heeft gekregen vóór 1 Augustus te adviseren, is het mij onmogelijk gebleken een ander tijdstip voor een der hoogst noodzakelijke vergaderingen van die commissie te vinden dan a.s. Vrijdagmiddag. Ik zal tot mijn grote spijt dus verstek moeten laten gaan.
Ten aanzien van de vraag in Uw brief van 10 Juni kan ik tot mijn spijt geen enkele positieve suggestie doen. Ik ben onvoldoende bekend met de mogelijkheden om een opvolger voor Prof. de Haas te vinden.

Dear Mr. Land,
I am beginning to fear very much that I will not be able to be present at the meeting this coming Friday. As chairman of a committee of the Social-Economic Council, which has been commissioned to advise before August 1, it has proved impossible for me to find another time for one of the most essential meetings of that committee than this coming Friday afternoon. To my great regret, I will therefore have to be absent.
Regarding the question in your letter of June 10, I unfortunately cannot make any positive suggestion. I am insufficiently familiar with the possibilities for finding a successor for Prof. de Haas.
