Zeer geachte Heer en Mevrouw Derksen,
Als secretaresse van Prof. Tinbergen heb ik Prof. Derksen verleden jaar hier op kantoor ontmoet. Met toestemming van Prof. Tinbergen kom ik speciaal Mevr. Derksen verzoeken, indien mogelijk, contact op te nemen met mijn dochter, Hilda Voskuil, stewardess bij de K.L.M., die a.s. Zondag voor het eerst naar New York vliegt. Hilletje heeft eerst uitsluitend op Indonesië en het Midden Oosten gevlogen, alwaar het de gewoonte is dat de crew van het vliegtuig bij elkaar blijft gedurende de "slip"dagen. Dit is echter naar het Westen niet het geval: zodra het vliegtuig op de grond is, is de gehele bemanning verstoven, om elkaar pas weer terug te zien bij de terugvaart. En New York lijkt ons een erg "armoedige" stad om er alleen door te dwalen. Hilletje kent ook Mevr. Tinbergen en de meisjes, en wordt, ondanks haar wat aangeboren reserve (hetgeen in haar werk zeer nuttig is) door velen heel aardig gevonden.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Derksen,
As the secretary of Prof. Tinbergen, I met Prof. Derksen here at the office last year. With Prof. Tinbergen's permission, I am writing specifically to ask Mrs. Derksen to, if possible, contact my daughter, Hilda Voskuil, a stewardess with K.L.M., who is flying to New York for the first time this coming Sunday. Hilletje has previously flown exclusively to Indonesia and the Middle East, where it is customary for the aircraft crew to stay together during the "layover" days. However, this is not the case in the West: as soon as the plane is on the ground, the entire crew disperses, only to see each other again for the return flight. And New York seems to us a very "miserable" city to wander through alone. Hilletje also knows Mrs. Tinbergen and the girls, and, despite her somewhat innate reserve (which is very useful in her work), she is found very pleasant by many.
