Dear Colleague,
It will be a great pleasure for me to welcome you on March 1st and I would like to invite you to dinner at our home. If your wife is traveling with you, we naturally also hope very much to see her with us.
Regarding the cooperation of our institutes on the problem of European integration, my thoughts are that we should expand the work of my colleague Verdoorn. I am thinking in particular of recording any cost indications of the most important branches of industry in the relevant countries. Colleague Verdoorn has indeed studied the demand side in his report, but not the cost side, and it could therefore be that the demand as calculated by him might not be met. It will therefore involve statistical estimates.
I heard from Mr. Klaassen that colleague Schneider has dealt with the mathematical side of the Verdoorn work and perhaps a nice cooperation in this sense could be combined with the above-mentioned.
I would like to discuss all these things with you on March 1st, but I am writing to you in advance now because you might then be able to consider it with Mr. Schneider.

Sehr geehrter Herr Kollege,
Es wird mir eine grosse Freude sein Sie am 1. März zu begrüssen und ich möchte Sie zum Abendessen bei uns zu Hause einladen. Ihre Frau Gemahlin mit Ihnen reise hoffen wir natürlich auch sehr sie uns zu sehen.
Bezüglich der Zusammenarbeit unserer Institute im Problem der europäischen Integration gehen meine Gedanken dahin dass wir die Arbeit meines Kollegen Verdoorn erweitern. Ich denke insbesondere an Erfassung irgendwelcher Kostenindikationen der wichtigsten Betriebszweigen in den betreffenden Ländern. Herr Kollege Verdoorn hat nämlich in seinem Gutachten zwar die Nachfrageseite studiert, jedoch nicht die Kostenseite, und es könnte also sein dass die Nachfrage wie von ihm berechnet nicht Folge geleistet werden könnte. Es wird sich also um statistische Schätzungen handeln.
Ich hörte von Herrn Klaassen dass Kollege Schneider sich mit der mathematischen Seite der Verdoorn-Arbeit befasst hat und es liesse sich vielleicht eine schöne Zusammenarbeit in diesem Sinne mit der oben-genannten verbinden.
Ich möchte alle diesen Sachen mit Ihnen am 1. März besprechen, schreibe Ihnen jedoch ins voraus schon jetzt weil Sie dann vielleicht mit Herrn Schneider überlegen könnten.
