Bijgaand zend ik je het stuk van p.g. de Waard terug met enkele opmerkingen in de marge. Terwijl het dus wat de practische zijde van de zaak betreft duidelijk is en een goed overzicht geeft, heb ik er wat de finesses van het theoretische fundament betreft wel enkele vrij ernstige bezwaren tegen. Op het ogenblik zit ik zo volhandig, dat ik mij verontschuldig hierop niet verder in te gaan. Mijn eigen credo in deze zaak is in mijn boekje "International Economic Integration" te vinden, hetwelk een uitvoerige inhoudsopgave heeft, waarin alle fundamentele punten gesteld zijn. Het zou p.g. de Waard niet lang nemen daar een blik in te slaan. Ik hoop dat hij mij de korte afdoening niet kwalijk neemt.
Om dezelfde reden van gebrek aan tijd kan ik tot mijn spijt niet op je verzoek van 31 December ingaan om de conjunctuur-politieke discussie samen te vatten. Misschien voelt Hartog ervoor.

Enclosed I am sending you back the piece by p.g. de Waard with some remarks in the margin. While it is clear regarding the practical side of the matter and provides a good overview, I do have some quite serious objections regarding the finesses of the theoretical foundation. At the moment I am so busy that I apologize for not going into this further. My own credo in this matter can be found in my booklet "International Economic Integration", which has an extensive table of contents in which all fundamental points are stated. It would not take p.g. de Waard long to take a look at it. I hope he does not take the brief handling badly.
For the same reason of lack of time, I regret that I cannot comply with your request of December 31 to summarize the business cycle policy discussion. Perhaps Hartog would be interested.
