Naar aanleiding van ons gesprek van j.l. Maandag heb ik nog Minister Joekes en de heer Van Rhijn gevraagd hoe de zaak van de ouderdomsvoorziening er op het ogenblik voorstaat. Zij zeiden mij dat zij op het ogenblik in afwachting zijn van het advies van de Sociaal-Economische Raad. Als lid van de S.-E.R. weet ik dat een commissie, waarvan ik geen lid ben, op het ogenblik dat advies voorbereidt. Wanneer het klaar is zal ik het als lid ook moeten beoordelen. Op die wijze zal ik dus bij de zaak betrokken blijven, doch het is wel aannemelijk dat het nog geruime tijd zal duren voordat de Regering met een uitgewerkt voorstel zal komen. Men worstelt blijkbaar zeer met de zo moeilijke vraagstukken die hier, zoals wij allemaal weten, achterzitten.

Following our conversation of last Monday, I also asked Minister Joekes and Mr. Van Rhijn how the matter of the old-age provision stands at the moment. They told me that they are currently awaiting the advice of the Social-Economic Council. As a member of the S.E.R., I know that a committee, of which I am not a member, is currently preparing that advice. When it is ready, I will also have to assess it as a member. In this way, I will remain involved in the matter, but it is likely that it will take some time before the Government comes forward with a detailed proposal. They are apparently struggling very much with the difficult issues that, as we all know, lie behind this.
