Beste Leo,
Gisteren had ik gelegenheid je twee stukken vluchtig door te nemen. Dat over de bevolkingsontwikkeling en dat over de groei van steden. Beide lijken mij interessant en op het eerste gezicht heb ik er geen fundamentele fouten in kunnen vinden. Ik neem aan dat het niet je bedoeling is dat ik ze in finesses controleer; daartoe ben jezelf wel in staat. Wat het eerste stuk betreft, dat ik je hierbij terugzend, veel zal afhangen van de toepassingen. Het lijkt mij echter een zeer bruikbaar instrument. In hoeverre het nieuw is zul je beter weten dan ik. Blijkt het handig in de toepassingen te zijn dan is het daarmede, dunkt mij, ook rijp voor publicatie. Het tweede stuk geef ik je in Rotterdam eens terug, tenzij je er haast mee zou hebben. Het lijkt mij ook geslaagd. Ik vind het zelfs bijzonder aardig. Ook hier kan ik niet beoordelen

of het nieuw is, maar dat zullen je mede-auteur en jezelf wel weten. Het doet mij in ieder geval bijzonder genoegen dat je bij je drukke werkzaamheden ook de tijd weet te vinden voor eigen wetenschappelijk werk, want hierdoor moet de hogeschool leven.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to briefly go through your two pieces. The one about population development and the one about the growth of cities. Both seem interesting to me and at first glance I have not been able to find any fundamental errors in them. I assume it is not your intention that I check them in detail; you are quite capable of that yourself. As for the first piece, which I am returning to you herewith, much will depend on the applications. However, it seems to me to be a very useful instrument. To what extent it is new, you will know better than I. If it turns out to be handy in the applications, then it is, I think, also ripe for publication. I will give the second piece back to you in Rotterdam sometime, unless you are in a hurry with it. It also seems successful to me. I even find it particularly nice. Here too, I cannot judge

whether it is new, but your co-author and yourself will know that. In any case, it gives me great pleasure that, despite your busy activities, you also manage to find the time for your own scientific work, because the university must live through this.
