Dear Mr Thompson,
I got your circular letter and the German text of a number of speeches. Although it will not be easy for me being a State Official to participate in campaigns of 7-14 days,I should like to know in what country and before what sort of meetings you wanted me to speak. I don't think I am an appropriate speaker for very large meetings. I am certainly prepared to address groups up to hundred or a few hundreds of people. I don't know in what category of meetings your "scarcity" of speakers is largest. I could only address people in English, France or German, not in other languages. As I said before, it is not certain that I will get permission of my government, so please, consider this as a provisional contact only.
