Zeer geachte Heren,
Op mijn verjaardag werd ik verrast met een bijzondere mooie azalea, waarbij als afzender Uw Commissie werd genoemd. Mag ik U hierbij mijn zeer hartelijke dank voor deze vriendelijke geste uitspreken, al is Uw kennis van zaken vermoedelijk toe te schrijven aan wat wij ambtenaren een "lek" zouden noemen ! Ik hoop dat de samenwerking tussen de Subcommissie en het Instituut nog lang moge voortduren onder het devies semper melior, dit laatste bedoeld voor de prestaties van het Nederlands Economisch Instituut.

Dear Sirs,
On my birthday I was surprised with a particularly beautiful azalea, for which your Committee was named as the sender. May I hereby express my very heartfelt thanks to you for this kind gesture, even if your knowledge of the facts is presumably attributable to what we civil servants would call a "leak"! I hope that the cooperation between the Sub-committee and the Institute may continue for a long time under the motto semper melior, the latter intended for the performance of the Netherlands Economic Institute.
