Dear Mr. Oreja,
Thank you for yours of January 7, 1988, and the Programme of Activities at European Level of the European Public Campaign on North-South [inter]dependence and solidarity.
I read the Campaign Programme of Activities with great interest. I am pleased that on p. 18, where cultural activities are shown, under Theme II "Proposals for Action" are among the activities announced. In contrast, this activity is not mentioned on p. 15, where political activities are scheduled. Since for the Southern countries some concrete suggestions in the political area are of the greatest importance, I want to suggest that in that field also Proposals for Action will be put on the agenda. One concrete example is that all developed nations expand their development assistance to the level of 0.7 per cent of gross national product, as proposed in 1969 by the Pearson Commission and supported in 1980 by the Brandt Commission. Since on p. 40, under 3.19 (Other Activities) the possibility of additional activities is mentioned, I draw your attention to the preceding suggestion. I would be grateful if a copy of this letter could be sent to my colleagues of the Honorary Committee.
Thanking you in advance I remain,
Yours respectfully,
(Jan Tinbergen)
