Zeer geachte Heer Doornberg,
In antwoord op Uw briefkaart van 24 dezer deel ik U mede dat ik inmiddels zowel de cijfers van Uw examen heb opgevraagd als nadere informaties heb ingewonnen bij de voorzitter van de examencommissie. Daarbij is mij gebleken dat Uw cijfers voor statistiek, ofschoon net voldoende, toch nog zwak is, terwijl bovendien de door U bedoelde verlichting practisch nooit gegeven wordt. Er kan daarom tot mijn spijt ook in Uw geval geen sprake van zijn.

Dear Mr. Doornberg,
In response to your postcard of the 24th of this month, I inform you that I have since requested the grades of your exam as well as obtained further information from the chairman of the examination committee. It has become clear to me that your grades for statistics, although just sufficient, are still weak, while moreover the relief you referred to is practically never given. Therefore, to my regret, there can be no question of it in your case either.
