Zeer geachte Collega,
Hierbij breng ik U nader verslag uit van mijn gesprek op Woensdag 14 November te Stuttgart met dr BOUSTEDT uit München. Ik heb van dr Boustedt een zeer gunstige indruk gekregen, doch het bleek dat hij zich wel geheel gespecialiseerd heeft in een oriëntatie naar regionaal statistisch onderzoek ten behoeve van de regionale planning en hij schijnt ook van plan te zijn zich daar verder aan te wijden. Ik betwijfel dus eigenlijk zeer of hij bereid zal zijn om naar Zuid Afrika te komen. Hij is in verband daarmede niet in het bijzonder op de hoogte van statistisch conjunctuuronderzoek noch ook van Afrikaanse verhoudingen. Hij heeft zich gedurende de oorlog bezig gehouden met het onderzoek van buitenlandse markten ten behoeve van de z.g. "Werberat", dat is dus een raad voor de reclame. Hij heeft ook in het statistisch bureau van Estland een volkstelling geleid. Te München heeft hij deel uitgemaakt van de "Planungsabteilung" van de landelijke regering, waar hij bij een regeringscrisis verdwenen is om twee jaar bij de Agfa te werken. Sedert 1949 is hij dan werkzaam bij het "statistisches Landesamt" afd. regionale statistiek, terwijl hij deel uitmaakt van de "Schriftleitung" van het "Allgemeines statistisches Archiv".

Dear Colleague,
I hereby provide you with a further report on my conversation on Wednesday, 14 November in Stuttgart with Dr. BOUSTEDT from Munich. I received a very favorable impression of Dr. Boustedt, but it appeared that he has specialized entirely in an orientation towards regional statistical research for the benefit of regional planning, and he also seems to intend to continue dedicating himself to that. I therefore actually doubt very much whether he will be willing to come to South Africa. In connection with this, he is not particularly knowledgeable about statistical business cycle research nor about African conditions. During the war, he was involved in the research of foreign markets for the so-called "Werberat", which is a council for advertising. He also led a census in the statistical office of Estonia. In Munich, he was part of the "Planungsabteilung" (Planning Department) of the state government, where he disappeared during a government crisis to work at Agfa for two years. Since 1949, he has been employed at the "statistisches Landesamt" (State Statistical Office), regional statistics department, while also being a member of the "Schriftleitung" (editorial board) of the "Allgemeines statistisches Archiv".
