May I take the liberty to approach you with the following affair ?
Since 1 1/2 year we have at The Hague an Institute of Social Studies, founded by the Netherlands universities; I am myself one of the teachers at this institute. Among the students is Mr A. Mitra who at present is writing a doctor thesis under my direction. His work has been very good and he has shown good understanding for statistical research as well as for the underlying economic relations. Mr Mitra tells me that he is applying for a research post at the ministry of Finance in India. Having had the pleasure of meeting you during my visit to India in December 1951 I take the liberty of recommending Mr Mitra to you. I hope it will be possible to employ Mr Mitra in statistical and economic research for which his enthusiasme and his qualities are clear.
