Zeer geachte Prof. Schumann,
Tot mijn spijt is het mij niet zo eenvoudig gebleken een geschikte kracht voor Uw Bureau voor Economisch Onderzoek te vinden. Reeds kort na Uw vertrek meldde mij de heer Van Dongen Torman dat hij het bedrijf van zijn familie moeilijk kon verlaten en bij nader inzien daarom van Uw aanbod geen gebruik kon maken. Ik heb toen getracht anderen te vinden, hetgeen, zoals ik U in Februari uiteenzette, niet eenvoudig zou zijn. Reeds berichtte ik U dat mijn eigen Bureau in sterke mate "uitgekamd" was door tijdelijke detachementen elders. Ik trachtte mijn vroegere medewerker Prof. Zimmerman te interesseren, doch deze heeft mij eveneens een weigerend antwoord gezonden.
Thans staat het zo dat U gaarne zou spreken in Brussel de heer drs M.A. Jansen, eveneens een mijner vroegere medewerkers, thans staff member van het Bureau van de E.C.E. te Genève. Ik kan U de heer Jansen zeer aanbevelen. Hij heeft zich een bekwaam en toegewijd statisticus en econometrist getoond. Het is mij echter bekend dat hij nog andere mogelijkheden heeft, o.a. bij de N.A.T.O., terwijl hij bovendien aan het internationale werk wel verknocht is.
Waar ik zie dat U 4 à 5 dagen in Brussel verblijft is het misschien het beste wanneer U de heer Jansen telegrafisch vraagt naar Brussel te komen. Zijn adres is E.C.E., Palais des Nations, Genève of zijn huisadres: 128, Route de la Capite, Cologny (Genève). Ik heb hem op de hoogte gesteld van de data van Uw verblijf in Brussel, zodat hij er enigszins mede rekent van U op de 5e Juli een telegram te ontvangen.
Mocht ik inmiddels nog andere candidaten kunnen vinden, dan zal ik ook die naar Brussel verwijzen.

Dear Prof. Schumann,
To my regret, it has not proven so simple for me to find a suitable person for your Bureau for Economic Research. Shortly after your departure, Mr. Van Dongen Torman informed me that he found it difficult to leave his family's business and, upon closer consideration, could therefore not make use of your offer. I then tried to find others, which, as I explained to you in February, would not be easy. I already informed you that my own Bureau was heavily "combed out" due to temporary detachments elsewhere. I tried to interest my former colleague Prof. Zimmerman, but he has also sent me a refusal.
Currently, the situation is such that you would like to speak in Brussels with Mr. drs M.A. Jansen, also one of my former colleagues, currently a staff member of the Bureau of the E.C.E. in Geneva. I can highly recommend Mr. Jansen to you. He has proven himself to be a capable and dedicated statistician and econometrician. However, I am aware that he has other possibilities, including with N.A.T.O., while he is also quite attached to international work.
Since I see that you are staying in Brussels for 4 to 5 days, it might be best if you ask Mr. Jansen by telegram to come to Brussels. His address is E.C.E., Palais des Nations, Geneva, or his home address: 128, Route de la Capite, Cologny (Geneva). I have informed him of the dates of your stay in Brussels, so that he somewhat expects to receive a telegram from you on July 5th.
Should I find any other candidates in the meantime, I will also refer them to Brussels.
