Beste Dick,
Dank voor je mededeling over Stuvels bijdrage; het oordeel lijkt mij inderdaad wat fel, maar niet geheel ongegrond. Het is wel een studie op de marge van het te empirische. Ik was er zelf sinds lange tijd ook niet zo buitengewoon gelukkig meer over, al draag ik mede de verantwoordelijkheid.
Moet ik uit je brief begrijpen dat je toch niet terugkomt? Wij zijn nog steeds benieuwd om daarover te horen,
Het zal je interesseren te horen dat wij zeer intensief aan het studeren zijn op het rapport van de deskundigen over de nationale en internationale maatregelen tot handhaving van volledige werkgelegenheid. In de E.-S.B. zal aan deze zaak ook terdege aandacht worden gegeven. Ik had het oordeel van de "Economist" over het werk van U.N. ook gelezen en vind het iets te sterk gezegd. Aan de andere kant hoop ik inderdaad dat men nu met belangrijke beslissingen inzake de werkgelegenheidspolitiek zal komen.
Ik kreeg een brief van mijn vroegere medewerker J.v.d. Valk, 1e luitenant, thans nog in Djakarta, waarin deze mij schreef dat hij graag eens in een van de internationale instellingen zou werken. Hij is wel een intelligente knaap, reden waarom ik je op hem attent maak en zijn adres hieronder nog even vermeld.

Dear Dick,
Thank you for your message about Stuvel's contribution; the judgment seems to me indeed a bit fierce, but not entirely unfounded. It is indeed a study on the margin of the too empirical. I myself have not been so exceptionally happy about it for a long time, although I share the responsibility.
Should I understand from your letter that you are not coming back after all? We are still curious to hear about that,
It will interest you to hear that we are studying very intensively the report of the experts on national and international measures for the maintenance of full employment. In the E.-S.B. this matter will also be given thorough attention. I had also read the "Economist's" judgment on the work of the U.N. and find it said a bit too strongly. On the other hand, I do hope that important decisions regarding employment policy will now be made.
I received a letter from my former colleague J.v.d. Valk, 1st lieutenant, currently still in Jakarta, in which he wrote to me that he would like to work in one of the international institutions. He is an intelligent lad, which is why I am bringing him to your attention and mentioning his address below.
