Dear Mr. LeBlanc,
Thank you very much for your letter of August 5. In order that you understand my answer, I should inform you that, for reasons of health, I decided last year to restrict travel to Europe and not to accept evening engagements any more. Now I hope that nevertheless the main ideas of your plan can be carried out. To begin with, I shall be glad to write the article you mention and to do so well before the end of September. Then, I think it a good idea to announce the World Federalist Medal for New Global Economic Solutions to Global Problems. There arises a problem as to whose names to attach to it. I wonder whether you are aware that I was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize for Economics on the basis of my work done on "dynamic econometric models". The word international was not mentioned. So the question arises whether not a combined Brandt-Tinbergen medal would be a good idea, since Mr. Willy Brandt received the Nobel Prize for Peace. I accept having my name attached, since I accepted to report to the Club of Rome on Renewing the International Order as a reaction to the Sixth Special Session of the U.N. General Assembly. The first thing to do then would be to ask Mr. Brandt whether he is willing to join us.
As for the other Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics winners, I am sorry to inform you that Professor Frisch died two years ago. But Professor W. Leontief of Harvard University is also one and is engaged in an important piece of research for the United Nations. If he could join us it would be of particular interest; but, of course, I would also welcome the participation of my other colleagues.
I hope you will give serious thought to my proposed amendation of your plans.
