Zeer geachte Heer Besselink,
In antwoord op Uw brief van 22 April zend ik U bijgaand afschrift van het door Prof. Tinbergen heden opgestuurde verklaring aan de Universiteit van Michigan, opgesteld aan de hand van over U ingewonnen inlichtingen.
Hoogachtend,
secretaresse
PROF. DR J. TINBERGEN THE HAGUE, 24 April 1954 Sijzenlaan 41

The University of Michigan, c/o mrs Pauline Goodale, Office of Admissions, 1524 Administration Building, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan
I herewith declare to know Mr Herman BESSELINK, member of the editing staff of the Dutch daily newspaper "Het Rotterdamsch Parool".
Mr Besselink is more or less a selfmade man; he he had to earn his living while following part of his secondary and specialized journalism courses. He succeeded, however, in obtaining all the necessary degrees and has shown himself, according to all concerned, a very able journalist of whom much is expected in the future. Not only is his knowledge of often difficult subjects remarkable, but he also knows how to use his material to compose articles that can be marked "very good". In my opinion, and as far as I can judge from recent experience in the United States, it is safe to consider him favorably as an "advanced standing applicant" to your University.
J. Tinbergen, Professor of Economics, Rotterdam School of Economics.
