Zeer geachte heer Goldschmidt,
Ofschoon zeer laat wil ik u toch nog hartelijk dank zeggen voor de ontvangst van uw proefschrift. Ik had gehoopt u nog iets over uw boek te kunnen schrijven bij deze gelegenheid, maar ik moet bekennen, dat het zo gecompliceerd is, dat ik geen gelegenheid heb gevonden mij er ernstig rekenschap van te geven. Ik kan u op het ogenblik dus niet anders zeggen, dan dat ik de indruk heb, dat het een zeer ernstig stuk werk is en dat ik uiteraard benieuwd ben welke weerklank u hebt gevonden, of zult vinden in kringen der practici.

Dear Mr. Goldschmidt,
Although very late, I would still like to thank you cordially for the receipt of your thesis. I had hoped to be able to write something more about your book on this occasion, but I must confess that it is so complicated that I have not found the opportunity to give it serious consideration. At the moment, I can therefore say nothing else to you than that I have the impression that it is a very serious piece of work and that I am naturally curious as to what resonance you have found, or will find, in circles of practitioners.
