Beste Wim,
Mag ik jou en Cor mede namens mijn vrouw heel hartelijk danken voor het buitengewoon mooie boek dat je me gestuurd hebt. Wij hebben het bijzonder op prijs gesteld, ofschoon het toch eigenlijk vanzelf sprak, dat ik mijn tijd aan je dissertatie heb gegeven. Dat hoort bij het baantje! Maar als bewijs van hartelijkheid stellen wij het beiden toch zeer op prijs, terwijl het een boek is, dat bijzonder in onze smaak valt. Wij hebben er ons al enigermate in verdiept en weer allerlei andere reproducties gevonden dan wij kenden.
Je zult jezelf nu ook wel pleizierig voelen en terecht zin in vacantie hebben. Gaan jullie nog de stad uit? Leuk dat ik ook je dochter bij de promotie zag.

Dear Wim,
May I, also on behalf of my wife, thank you and Cor very warmly for the exceptionally beautiful book you sent me. We appreciated it very much, although it was actually a matter of course that I devoted my time to your dissertation. That's part of the job! But as a token of cordiality, we both appreciate it very much, while it is a book that particularly suits our taste. We have already delved into it to some extent and found all kinds of other reproductions than we knew.
You will probably feel pleasant now too and rightly look forward to a vacation. Are you still going out of town? Nice that I also saw your daughter at the promotion.
