Inderdaad is Dr H. Rijken van Olst mij bekend: hij was chef van de 4de afdeling van het C.B.S., de afdeling die ik vroeger zelf heb geleid, en is thans lector in de Statistiek en de Econometrie aan de Rijksuniversiteit te Groningen. De heer Rijken van Olst promoveerde indertijd bij mij en maakte tot heden tweemaal deel uit van een missie voor technische bijstand, namelijk één voor Panama en één voor Ecuador.
In beide gevallen ging het er om assistentie te verlenen bij het berekenen van het nationale inkomen der betrokken landen. Het is iemand met een helder inzicht en behoorlijke "push". Het doet mij genoegen dat hij benoemd is bij het Fonds. Ik zal hem gaarne de wenk geven waarover je me schreef.

Indeed, Dr. H. Rijken van Olst is known to me: he was head of the 4th department of the C.B.S., the department that I myself previously led, and is currently a lecturer in Statistics and Econometrics at the University of Groningen. Mr. Rijken van Olst obtained his doctorate under me at the time and has to date twice been part of a mission for technical assistance, namely one for Panama and one for Ecuador.
In both cases, it concerned providing assistance in calculating the national income of the countries involved. He is someone with clear insight and considerable "push". I am pleased that he has been appointed to the Fund. I will gladly give him the hint you wrote to me about.
