Dear Jack:
Your letter on the subject of Tinbergen's Dynamics of Business Cycles was very helpful in enabling us to decide on the advisability of obtaining the rights for its translation into Spanish. I realized, of course, that you as co-author, translator and disciple of Tinbergen, would be embarassed in recommending it, but you gave just the right kind of answer to my questions and gave me the kind of evaluation I needed. I myself read some parts of the book, regretting only that I have not had more time to read it all. I was particularly interested, as a non-business cycle subject, in the chapter on long-term growth, as well as in chapter XI which you mentioned. As I believe I told you before, someone else read several chapters and reported very favorably.
The net result of all this is that the Fondo de Cultura Economica has written to the University of Chicago Press requesting terms for the translation rights. It is hoped that they will reply soon so that work can be started on the translation. If there is anything you could do to influence the publishers in favor of the Fondo, it would be enormously appreciated.
With best regards once again,
Sincerely,
/s/ V. Urquidi
