Dear and honored Colleague,
In possession of your honored request of May 23, it seems to me that Dutch publications will not be able to help you much regarding documentation on the economic situation. The two publications which, before the war, dealt with this subject are no longer published. However, statistical figures for the Netherlands are published regularly without any commentary in the monthly reviews of the Central Bureau of Statistics. I have asked Mr. IDENBURG if it is possible for him to send them to you regularly.
Regarding the method of performing economic situation analyses, I take the liberty of referring you to the books of Professor Wagemann and to the pre-war publications of the "London and Cambridge Economic Service". My own work on the economic situation has only been published in Dutch. My publications in foreign languages do not deal with this subject. However, there is an article that might interest you in this regard; it is my contribution to a volume recently published by the "National Bureau of Economic Research", a contribution titled "The Reformulation of Current Business Cycle Theories as Refutable Hypotheses". I am sending you this article under separate cover.

Dans la possession de votre honorée prière du 23 mai, il me semble que les publications néerlandaises ne pourront pas vous aider beaucoup en ce qui concerne la documentation de la conjoncture. Les deux publications qui, avant la guerre, se sont occupées de ce sujet ne sont plus publiées. Cependant, les chiffres statistiques des Pays-Bas sont publiés régulièrement sans aucun commentaire dans les revues mensuelles du Bureau Central de Statistique. J'ai demandé à M. IDENBURG s'il lui est possible de vous les envoyer régulièrement.
En ce qui concerne la méthode de faire des analyses de conjoncture je me permets de vous renvoyer aux livres du Professeur Wagemann et aux publications avant la guerre de la "London and Cambridge Economic Service". Mes propres travaux sur la conjoncture n'ont été publiés qu'en hollandais. Mes publications en langues étrangères ne s'occupent pas de ce sujet. Toutefois il y a un article qui pourra vous intéresser peut-être à cet égard; c'est ma contribution à un volume publié récemment par le "National Bureau of Economic Research", contribution intitulée "The Reformulation of Current Business Cycle Theories as Refutable Hypotheses".
