Dear Mr Kennedy,
After my provisional reply of December 1, 1953 to your letter SRS/53 of November 25, 1953 I am now able to give my final answer. This has been influenced by two factors mainly, the first being that my wife who has always been susceptible to malaria could not live in Jakarta, the second, that meanwhile I got further news from Prof. Mahalanobis in which he told me that possibly the Indian Government would offer me a contract. With this state of affairs I have chosen for the latter country which, you remember, was the first to invite me. Since the request by the Indonesian Government was also known to the Dutch Government I meanwhile informed my colleagues in the Technical Assistance Division of my decision.
