Zeer geachte Heer 't Hart,
Bijgaand zend ik U het gecorrigeerde hoofdstuk, thans hoofdstuk VIII, wederom terug. Voor alle zekerheid meld ik U nog even (ik meen echter dat ik het ook reeds buiten op het voorwoord heb geschreven) dat alle losse letters in de tekst evenals de formules cursief moeten worden gezet, zoals in een wiskundig werk gebruikelijk is. Bovendien meld ik nog even dat voor zover het teken + is getikt bedoeld is het + teken, hetgeen op vele plaatsen is aangegeven, maar niet overal. Ik hoop dat men het in de voorafgaande hoofdstukken ook begrepen heeft.

Dear Mr. 't Hart,
Enclosed I am returning the corrected chapter, now Chapter VIII. To be on the safe side, I would like to mention (although I believe I have already written it on the outside of the preface) that all individual letters in the text as well as the formulas must be set in italics, as is customary in a mathematical work. Furthermore, I would like to mention that where the sign + is typed, the + sign is intended, which has been indicated in many places, but not everywhere. I hope that this was also understood in the preceding chapters.
