Zeer geachte Heer Slotemaker,
Bijgaand zend ik U mijn artikel wederom toe met enkele kleine wijzigingen en U gaarne dankend voor de aandacht daaraan geschonken. Ik mag de wijzigingen en Uw brief wellicht op de volgende wijze toelichten, resp. beantwoorden.
Ik geloof niet dat men bij "The Economist" artikelen kan inzenden; voorzover mij bekend plaatst de redactie uitsluitend redactionele artikelen. Mocht het anders zijn dan zal de heer Taudin Chabot dat natuurlijk wel weten.
National forms is een misprint voor "national firms".
De kwestie van de "subventions" stelde ik alleen als een beter alternatief tot protectie, maar beide zijn slechts bedoeld als tijdelijke maatregel. Ik heb de passage dienovereenkomstig verduidelijkt, maar kan haar niet geheel weglaten.
De aanhaling van Prof. Ferreira was wellicht iets te gedrongen en daardoor naar haar zin onduidelijk. Het gehele artikel is, zoals U weet, juist uitgelokt als een tegenbetoog tegen Prof. Ferreira en in feite wordt deze dan ook in de slotpassage bestreden. Slechts zijn terminologie wordt gebruikt juist om te laten zien dat het tegen hem gaat. Ik heb echter getracht om mij thans, naar ik hoop, aanmerkelijk duidelijker uit te spreken, waardoor het misverstand wel zal zijn vermeden. Inmiddels ben ik ook volkomen bereid om deze zin toch weg te laten en ik zou dit dus gaarne aan Uw decisie overlaten. De machtiging om het artikel waar U dat nuttig acht in te zenden verleen ik U hierbij gaarne.

Enclosed I send you my article again with some minor changes and thank you for the attention given to it. I may perhaps explain or answer the changes and your letter in the following way.
I do not believe that one can submit articles to "The Economist"; as far as I know, the editorial staff only publishes editorial articles. Should it be otherwise, Mr. Taudin Chabot will of course know.
"National forms" is a misprint for "national firms".
The issue of "subventions" I only proposed as a better alternative to protection, but both are only intended as a temporary measure. I have clarified the passage accordingly, but cannot omit it entirely.
The citation of Prof. Ferreira was perhaps a bit too condensed and therefore unclear in its meaning. The entire article is, as you know, precisely provoked as a counter-argument against Prof. Ferreira and in fact, he is also contested in the final passage. Only his terminology is used precisely to show that it is directed against him. However, I have tried to express myself considerably more clearly now, I hope, which will likely have avoided the misunderstanding. In the meantime, I am also completely prepared to leave this sentence out after all, and I would therefore like to leave this to your decision. I hereby gladly grant you the authorization to submit the article where you deem it useful.
