Zeer geachte Heer v.d. Heijden,
Uw brief van 17 Juli moest even op beantwoording wachten in verband met mijn vacantie. Het komt mij voor dat op de door U aangegeven wijze slechts zeer geringe bedragen kunnen worden verkregen. De moeilijkheid is verder dat het een vrij willekeurige wijze is van financiering. Waarom zouden juist tentoonstellingbezoekers moeten bijdragen ?. Ook moet U niet onderschatten de noodzakelijkheid van een juiste financiële administratie en contrôle zodra het gaat om een publieke zaak.
Onder dankzegging voor Uw moeite meen ik echter dat wij het vraagstuk in deze richting niet zullen kunnen oplossen.

Dear Mr. v.d. Heijden,
Your letter of July 17 had to wait a while for a reply due to my vacation. It seems to me that only very small amounts can be obtained in the manner indicated by you. The difficulty is furthermore that it is a rather arbitrary way of financing. Why should exhibition visitors in particular have to contribute? You should also not underestimate the necessity of proper financial administration and control as soon as it concerns a public matter.
While thanking you for your effort, I believe, however, that we will not be able to solve the problem in this direction.
