Amice,
Wegens vele werkzaamheden is het mij onmogelijk mijn taak als lid van het bestuur van het Nederlandsch Genootschap voor Internationale Zaken naar behoren te vervullen. Daarom zou ik willen verzoeken mij van deze taak te ontheffen. Wellicht kan dus op de volgende ledenvergadering worden medegedeeld, dat ik mij tot mijn spijt moet terugtrekken. Gelukkig is de toestand van het Genootschap thans zo, dat mij dit niet het gevoel geeft een zekere desertie [te] begaan.

Dear friend,
Due to many activities, it is impossible for me to properly fulfill my task as a member of the board of the Netherlands Institute for International Affairs. Therefore, I would like to request to be relieved of this task. Perhaps it can therefore be announced at the next general meeting that I must, to my regret, withdraw. Fortunately, the state of the Institute is currently such that this does not give me the feeling of committing a certain desertion.
