Beste Dick,
Met veel dank hebben wij het eerste pak Nabisco ontvangen. Je hebt je nog niet uitgesproken over de betalingsregeling die je wenst. Hopelijk wil je dat nog even binnenkort mededelen. Voor je moeite zijn we je in ieder geval buitengemeen dankbaar, omdat het goed hier niet te krijgen is.
Wij zijn hier zeer benieuwd wat er in de UN-assembly over het vraagstuk van de onderontwikkelde gebieden zal worden besloten. Zelf ben ik daarbij de laatste tijd meer en meer betrokken. In het einde van deze week hoop ik met Saraceno en anderen in Rome het 10-jarenplan van Italië te bespreken, terwijl ik eind van de maand een kleine handreiking heb te verrichten bij de Nedeco-opdracht over de ontwikkeling der havens van Mexico.
Met de heer van Kleffens is het blijkbaar toch vlotter gegaan dan je in je brief van 11 September meende. Wat betreft Mendes-France zijn wij allemaal erg nieuwsgierig hoe hij dat verder zal spelen. Het is niet uitgesloten dat hij slimmer is dan wij allen. Laten wij hopen ten goede.

Dear Dick,
With many thanks we have received the first pack of Nabisco. You have not yet expressed your views on the payment arrangement you desire. Hopefully you will be willing to communicate that shortly. In any case, we are extremely grateful to you for your trouble, because the goods are not available here.
We are very curious here what will be decided in the UN assembly about the issue of underdeveloped areas. I myself have been more and more involved in this lately. At the end of this week I hope to discuss Italy's 10-year plan with Saraceno and others in Rome, while at the end of the month I have to provide a little assistance with the Nedeco assignment regarding the development of the ports of Mexico.
With Mr. van Kleffens, things apparently went more smoothly than you thought in your letter of September 11. As for Mendes-France, we are all very curious how he will play that further. It is not excluded that he is smarter than all of us. Let us hope for the best.
