Mijne Heren,
Met dezelfde post zend ik U de drukproeven terug van mijn manuscript "Business Cycles in the United Kingdom 1870-1914" dat vanwege de Akademie zal worden uitgegeven. Gaarne wil ik U zeggen hoezeer ik getroffen ben door de hoge kwaliteit van het zetwerk dat U daarbij hebt geleverd. Bij ervaring wetende hoeveel moeilijkheden men soms heeft met wiskundig zetwerk, kan ik niet anders zeggen dan dat dit werk bijzonder fraai was gedaan. Een aantal der veranderingen, die ik heb aangebracht, houdt verband met het feit dat er enige hoofdstukken zijn uitgevallen en dat er een aantal passages waren, die bij de eerste controle nog niet door mij waren veranderd. Ik mag misschien nog even Uw aandacht vestigen op de vraag of dit een verhandeling van de afdeling Natuurkunde dan wel van de afdeling Letterkunde is. Zo nodig wilt

By the same mail I am returning to you the galley proofs of my manuscript "Business Cycles in the United Kingdom 1870-1914" which will be published on behalf of the Academy. I would like to tell you how much I am struck by the high quality of the typesetting you have provided. Knowing from experience how many difficulties one sometimes has with mathematical typesetting, I cannot say otherwise than that this work was done exceptionally beautifully. A number of the changes I have made are related to the fact that some chapters have been omitted and that there were a number of passages that had not yet been changed by me during the first check. I might perhaps draw your attention to the question of whether this is a treatise of the Science division or of the Humanities division. If necessary, please
