PROF. DR JAN TINBERGEN THE HAGUE, January 30, [1951]
Sijzenlaan 41
Mr Gilbert White, President of Haverford College, Haverford (Pa)
M3
Dear Gilbert,
Thank you for your kind letter of January 18. As I told you already when we were leaving, the time we had in Haverford was something quite unique to us. In particular the contact we had with yourself, your family and many of my colleagues. It was pleasant here to find in the Teaf's representatives of your group and so not completely to have cut of all personal contacts. I am sending these days a book to you which I hope you will accept as an expression of our feelings, apologizing for the long delay which it took to fulfil this plan. There were many things to do on my return and this is why it took so long. At the same time I have been asking the Bank to send to Haverford College the $ 50.00 amount of which I told you: it is intended to be a very modest contribution for whatever help to students is given in cases of emergency. You will remember that is was an amount which I thought I owed to Prof. Stephan, of Princeton University being interest and depreciation of a personal loan. Prof. Stephan did not want to accept this amount and proposed that the above mentioned destination be given to it.
You may be interested that one of the Indian students has been writing his thesis and has chosen as his subject the calculation of priorities for public investments and has been consulting Mr Ringer's copy of the report "A Water Policy for the American People" with great advantage.
With all best wishes also from Tine, yours very sincerely,
