Dear Colleague,
Since September a group of young Indian economists is working at the Hague at problems of economic planning. I have the pleasure of giving some lectures and am supervising part of the work. Studying the last version of the Indian Five-Year-Plan, we are struck by the rather optimistic estimates as to future savings. This led us to be particularly interested in whatever statistical information may now be available on savings by various groups of the population. We are wondering whether the sample survey has already proceeded far enough to give some information on this point. For a brief information about this question I would be most grateful.
