Amice,
In antwoord op je brief van 13 Maart, die door mijn afwezigheid even bleef liggen, kan ik je mededelen dat in Rotterdam tegenwoordig weer de gelegenheid bestaat om een studie af te ronden na het candidaatsexamen; hiervoor is de nieuwe term baccalaureaat ingevoerd. Ik heb aan de Hogeschool-administratie gevraagd je een studiegids toe te zenden. Daar vind je meer in dan ik uit mijn hoofd kan vertellen. In elk geval is er een zekere dosis bedrijfseconomie bij. Er is altijd een vrij groot aantal studenten geweest, dat Rotterdam heeft gevolgd niet verder dan het candidaatsexamen; vroeger heette dat D.H. (diploma Handelswetenschappen). Het is dus geen kwaad idee om de vorming van je zoon op deze wijze af te ronden. Het komt mij inderdaad voor, dat een zekere economische grondslag ook voor de man, die zich voor een practisch bedrijf voorbereid van waarde kan zijn.

Amice,
In response to your letter of March 13, which was left lying for a while due to my absence, I can inform you that in Rotterdam there is currently again the opportunity to complete a study after the candidate exam; for this, the new term baccalaureate has been introduced. I have asked the University administration to send you a study guide. You will find more in there than I can tell you from memory. In any case, there is a certain dose of business economics included. There has always been a fairly large number of students who followed Rotterdam no further than the candidate exam; formerly that was called D.H. (diploma in Commercial Sciences). It is therefore not a bad idea to complete your son's education in this way. It indeed seems to me that a certain economic foundation can also be of value for the man who prepares himself for a practical business.
