Aan de Hooggeleerde Heer Prof Dr D. van Dantzig,
Waarde Collega,
Terwijl reeds enige tijd een informele samenwerking bestaat tussen het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek, het Centraal Planbureau, het Mathematisch Centrum en het Nederlands Economisch Instituut betreffende econometrisch conjunctuuronderzoek, is vrij plotseling bij de nadere overweging van wat verder kan worden gedaan het denkbeeld opgekomen dat deze samenwerking een meer officieel karakter zou kunnen krijgen en bovendien een zekere financiële tegemoetkoming kon worden gevraagd aan de Nederlandse Organisatie voor Zuiver-Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek. Gezien de omstandigheid dat zulke aanvragen voor 1 September moeten zijn ingediend, terwijl het bovendien blijkt dat [collega] U morgen op reis gaat is met grote spoed bijgaande aanvrage opgesteld in de hoop dat alle betrokkenen zich daarmede zouden kunnen verenigen.
Mocht a. s. Dinsdag geen telefonisch bericht van het tegendeel zijn ontvangen, dan neem ik aan dat er Uwerzijds geen bezwaren zijn tegen deze aanvrage.

Dear Colleague,
While informal cooperation has existed for some time between the Central Bureau of Statistics, the Central Planning Bureau, the Mathematical Center, and the Netherlands Economic Institute regarding econometric business cycle research, the idea has quite suddenly arisen upon further consideration of what more can be done that this cooperation could take on a more official character and, moreover, that a certain financial contribution could be requested from the Netherlands Organisation for Pure Scientific Research. Given the circumstance that such applications must be submitted before September 1st, while it also appears that [colleague] you are going on a trip tomorrow, the enclosed application has been prepared with great haste in the hope that all those involved could agree to it.
Should no telephone message to the contrary be received by next Tuesday, I will assume that there are no objections on your part to this application.
