Zeer geachte Heer de Boer,
Bij mij hoopt te promoveren op 9 Juli de heer C.M. Palvia, een der leerlingen van het Institute of Social Studies te den Haag, de U welbekende instelling, die door The Netherlands University Foundation for International Cooperation is gesticht. Daar de heer Palvia zelf de vermenigvuldigingskosten van zijn proefschrift niet kan dragen zou ik het verzoek aan U willen voorleggen of het Hogeschoolfonds hierbij bemiddelend zou willen optreden. Ik gebruik deze laatste term, omdat het Institute of Social Studies bereid is de kosten te betalen, doch om geen precedenten te scheppen gaarne zou zien, dat formeel het Hogeschoolfonds zich daartoe bereid zou verklaren en tegenover de promovendus dus ook zou optreden als de instelling, die de kosten betaalt, terwijl materieel het Instituut deze kosten aan het Hogeschoolfonds zal rembourseren. De kosten worden op het ogenblik geraamd op f1000,- à f1200,-.
Gaarne zal ik van U vernemen of tegen het inwilligen van mijn verzoek bezwaren bestaan, dan wel dat daartoe nog formaliteiten moeten worden verricht. Ik ben de volgende week Donderdagmiddag in Rotterdam en kan dan uiteraard gaarne bij U langs komen, indien dit tot versnelling van de procedure kan bijdragen.

Dear Mr. de Boer,
Mr. C.M. Palvia, one of the students of the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, the well-known institution founded by The Netherlands University Foundation for International Cooperation, hopes to graduate with me on July 9. Since Mr. Palvia himself cannot bear the reproduction costs of his thesis, I would like to submit the request to you whether the University Fund would be willing to act as an intermediary in this matter. I use this latter term because the Institute of Social Studies is prepared to pay the costs, but in order not to create any precedents, it would like to see the University Fund formally declare its willingness to do so and thus also act towards the doctoral candidate as the institution that pays the costs, while materially the Institute will reimburse these costs to the University Fund. The costs are currently estimated at f1000 to f1200.
I would be pleased to hear from you whether there are any objections to granting my request, or whether any formalities still need to be completed. I will be in Rotterdam next Thursday afternoon and can, of course, gladly drop by if this can contribute to speeding up the procedure.
