Dear Colleague,
Thank you very much for your
letters of April k and May 10, and please excuse
rae for not having anav/ered ;/iet your kind wiBhes
to my birthdoy, /Vctuelly I am. rather busy, tt
is my custom only gradually to anav/er birthday
wlsnes, I ani glac to learn that you are now at
ECAFS,and I hope that the work will be interesting
to you.
As to your book, T am afr'aJ.d that
there is Bom-s ifdBimdergtanding, The freedom you
have elsewhere to publish yotir book in a 2nd editi^
does not, of course, mean any obligation to do
so. Would not the beat thing to do be to wait
until demand would show itself sufficient to interest a publisher ? For tiie moment being the
Institute has no funds to do so and "het Hogeschoolfonds" never acts as a publisher, xhe
printer ( Roend-Lorentzs v.d, Du;^;l3t:^?s.at 2, the
Hague) upon my information told me that the zinc
plates are still available. In ctise, therefore,
that you might be youi^self taiing "ÜBerisk, you
could always investigate whether the printer
would be willing to supply you more copies,
I am mjrself in a similar position
for one of my books which is completely out of
print. But ray publisher has not yet taken the
decision to ."Gorint it, I thirik he rightly waits
until accTomulated demand is sufficient,
I may have misunderdtood your
letter, but this is , I thinly., v/h-^t I have to
say about your doubts as I binderstood them,
Hov/ever that be, I do hope that
your new work with the •^CA'9^ will be satisfactory
to you,and if there are arising problems which
you want to discuss with rae I am always ready to do
so. The details of ay task in India have riot yet
been determined; yiesterday I hadyhowever, a visit
of Mr Mukerjee with whome I discussed soi.ie work
of Prof. Mahalanobis',
With best regards.
