Erik Ltmdberg, Studies in the Theory of Economie Expansion,
Kelley * Millraan, Inc. New York 195U; X + 266 pp.
Professor Lundberg's book, first published in 1937, has been reprinted unchanged under the well-deserved heading:
"Reprints of Economic Classics" and Is now published with a new
foreword by the author. The only part of the original book apart from a few small errors - that has not been reprinted is the
original foreword which deprives us of the pleasure of reading
the names of some now also famous contenq)oraries of the author
who were consulted by him.

It is well-known and understandable -wl^ there has been a continuous
demand for this book. Its careful and explicit treètraent of sequence e
analysis problems makes it very appropriate for economic education,
even if at present the subject matter might have been presented a
bit more organized, as far as the famous examples in Chapter IX are
concerned. Nowadays we might have preferred to give a complete list
of variables included and of equations assumed; and we might have
preferred a reference to the gene;pal solution of the system. It is
the privilege of a classic that it should bé read in its original
form and the reader will certainly enjoy this reading. The author
has always been very modest about the significance of his examples,
but their careful exposition and the light they throw on the nature
of certain turning points do give them the value attached to them
by so many scholeufs.
The author himself, in his new foreword rightly stresses two other
features of the book which justify its being reprinted, namely
the careful discussion of the choice of time units and the discussion
of the variability of certain coefficients dxiring the cycle.
