appraisal of Professor Jacon Marsohalc» ilarschak
is also one of the leading econometrists of the
world. He made very important contributions to
the field of mathematical econardcs, e.g. to
the theory of uncertainty and to the theory of
danand and supply of financial assets as well
as to the general theory of economic structure
and its measur«nent« His contributions cover
a wide field of different subjects of which
those mentioned are only the most important ones. They
They will be foiand in various publications of the
Cowles Commission and in a number of journals,
in particular Econoraetrlca, His writings are
characterized by very careful foiroulation and
great clarity and he is able to explain matters
to younger students very well.
It is difficT2lt to choose between Marschak
and Koopinans. I think Kooinaans shows greater
originality. Both are, however, excellent
scholars and teachers,
I take it that both ray letters vd-ll be
considered confidential.
