Dear K l e i n ,
Thank you very much for sending me your book;
you did me a great pleasure. I haven been invited to "ev^e-w
It in the Revue Internationale de Statistique. I shall be
glad to send you a copy of the review. You know already
that my judgement is very favorable. I am glad the book has
now been published, and I v;ant to congratulate you on its
appearance. Have your investigations with the National Bureau
developed favorably ? It might interest you that a compatriot
of Mine, Mr H.A.A. de Melverda (Ministry of Economic Affairs,
the Hague) published in a Dutch periodical "De Ingenieur" a
study based on the same rail\¥ay statistics of the United States
in which Tgé showed that in many respects fixed costs "do not
exist". If you are interested in his ?rark, please let m.e know.
I am sure he will be glad to send you an English sur, mary.
You may also be interested in a little bit of
revenge I took on my good friend the Norwegian planners when
being there. I announced I could prove them that their policy had be
had been too radical, and I pointed out the rather bad oerformances of thei?" balance of payments in 19^-9. Exactly'at
thefc Mine (April 19^9) they had decided to lower their subsidies
a good deal and now they are in the midst of wage negotiations.
Meanwhile, the Dutch economic policy had to take a very bad
step in accepting a second 5% wage increase a few weeks ago.
It would take me too long to let you know all the details, but
if you would happen to v/ant them we can send you some r.aterial.
With,all best personal wishes
yours very sincerely,
«L.
